1. Why should we vote for you?
I believe that our department needs a bigger voice to the Engineering community and to the university. As UP students, we have a responsibility to be involved in issues that concern not only in our school but also that of the country. I have also observed that while our department remians stable throughout that years, it is time that we bring something new to the CS students. I believe that I have the capabilities to both represent our department and at the same time encourage my fellow CS students to make a stand in those issues faced by the Iskolar ng Bayan. I have dreams for our department, one of of which is to be recognized as the best place to learn Computer Science in the country, and I wish to be in a position where I can make them come true.
2. Why should we NOT vote for you?
If you don't want a guy who wants more for our department and at the same time maintaining the stability in it, then don't vote for me. ^_^
3. What current CS Reps-sponsored programs/activities do you plan to continue or improve?
We plan to continue most of them, especially the mentorship program and the programming contests.
4. What new programs/activities do you plan to implement?
We have a lot, so I'm going to discuss only two of them. First is the ReBook!. A lot of alumni and upperclassmen have reference books and textbooks related to CS that they don't use anymore. We plan to bring those books to those who need them by donating them to our Library. Second is the Professional Buildup, where we will help graduating students improve on their skills in leadership and communication through workshops, practice interviews and such.
5. Sometimes, candidates promise a lot of things, but when they win, don't actually fulfill them. How can you assure us that everything you just said will be fulfilled?
I can assure you, my fellow CS students will be my top priority. if ever I win and be a CS Rep. I will make sure that those projects that cater to the immediate needs of the CS students will be those that will be implemented first.
6. Juggling school work with CS Rep work is hard. How do you plan to manage doing well in your acads and the same time fulfill your responsibilities as a CS rep?
Studying in advance, avoiding parties and such, make most of my time, sleep well and pray. ^_^
7. If you don't win, will you still be willing to serve the department with the same passion and determination that you would have if you won? If yes, how? If not, why?
Of course! If I don't win, then it means that it is not God's will for me. I will then try to serve my department in other ways.
8. If DCS had a mascot, what should it be? Why?
I was thinking of our department logo, but a binary tree would look weird. Perhaps a monitor would be best. ^_^
9. Apathy has always been a "disease" among Com Sci students, especially regarding campus or even national issues. As a CS Rep, do you plan to address that? If yes, how? If not, why?
Since every student goes into our builiding, I could put up a "Issue for the Month" poster so that it could be read by everyone, and then maybe put a box where they can put their reactions.
10. The CRSRS issue is the most recent issue to rock the UP community. What's your stance on it and why?
I voted "No", since I wanted our Student regent not to be really academically amazing, just so that he/she would be someone that takes his/her academics as a priority.
11. Do you think we have a chance of winning the Eng'g Cup next year, given that we garnered last place this year? How do you plan to improve our standing next year?
There's always a chance for our department to win the Eng'g Cup. I believe that we could improve our standing by recuiting early and have practices at suitable venues, to encourage the students to play. ^_^
12. Should you win as a CS Rep, UP Parser becomes part of your responsibilites since you will be automatically appointed Managing Editor. How do you plan to contribute to Parser?
I was also an editor for my school paper back in high school, so I know the gist of working in one. I want Parser to be always interesting, so I would make sure the articles featured in the paper would be those that really catches the attention of CS students.
13. In an alternate universe where you're not taking up Computer Science, what would be your course and why?
Perhaps I would take up Broadcast Communication, since I have a background in debating, or Secondary Education since I also want to be a teacher of high school students.
14. Give us the best computer-related joke you've got.
A wife never recognized his husband's addiction until he asked her to scratch his back and said "Scroll down. " ^_^
15. Would you rather be the next Bill Gates or the next Steve Jobs? Why?
Perhaps Bill Gates. I want to learn how to be a good entrepeneur and how to manage a big-time company.
