1. Why should we vote for you?
I am dedicated to my work, and I love to do service to others. My experience as an Executive Secretary in a Computer Science organization has helped me develop a sense of responsibility and understanding for what other Computer Science students like me, have as their potentials, talents and needs.
2. Why should we NOT vote for you?
If you think that someone who is as willing as I am can serve the department more through ways other than being a CS representative, then perhaps you shouldn't vote for me.
3. What current CS Reps-sponsored programs/activities do you plan to continue or improve?
Together with the other CS Reps candidates from ARISE, we plan to revive the DCS Mentorship Program, promote active student participation through the Dedicated Computer Science Students
4. What new programs/activities do you plan to implement?
We are going to have the freshies, transferees, and shiftees get-together, to help them settle in a new environment. They will gain not only friends but also confidence to survive their first year in the department. We are also going to intensify publicity and promote awareness among students through the DCS Information Board, CS Hotline(to help us representatives to reach out more to our co-students), and the CS Newsletter. Tie-up with organizations will be made for the "Teaching Lab Care" (TLC), to help take care of our laboratories and improve our learning environment. Also, support for the DCS programming team will be given in anyway that we can, to the best of our abilities.
5. Sometimes, candidates promise a lot of things, but when they win, don't actually fulfill them. How can you assure us that everything you just said will be fulfilled?
AGILE promises you only the projects that we are sure to implement and accomplish; but we don't settle for that. We strive to give our best into fulfilling the wishes of the students and faculty of this department.
6. Juggling school work with CS Rep work is hard. How do you plan to manage doing well in your acads and the same time fulfill your responsibilities as a CS rep?
My experience as part of an executive committee of an organization, plus other extra-curricular activities has taught me how to manage my time and prioritize my activities. I look up to the past CS representatives for being able to perform in their academics well even will all those duties, and they serve as an example for me to follow. It may be hard, but with passion, dedication and diligence, it's possible.
7. If you don't win, will you still be willing to serve the department with the same passion and determination that you would have if you won? If yes, how? If not, why?
Yes. I believe that there are other ways to serve the department, aside from being a CS Representative. I can still be active on the department's activities and participate or volunteer during events.
8. If DCS had a mascot, what should it be? Why?
If DCS had a mascot, it would be a lion. I believe that Computer Science students and faculty are courageous, strong and wise (just like Aslan in "The Chronicles of Narnia").
9. Apathy has always been a "disease" among Com Sci students, especially regarding campus or even national issues. As a CS Rep, do you plan to address that? If yes, how? If not, why?
Yes, we plan to address that. As previously mentioned, we are going to intensify our publicity and information dissemination through the Information Board, CS Hotline, CS newsletter, emails, etc.
10. The CRSRS issue is the most recent issue to rock the UP community. What's your stance on it and why?
No -- We believe that we want to ensure accountability and transparency of the Student Regent, and so we want some changes in the selection of the SR. Nominated students should be able fulfill the minimum academic requirement set by the University Code so they will not incur a probationary status or graver prior to his or her nomination. We also believe that in order for the selection to become democratic, each student council must be give one vote each.
11. Do you think we have a chance of winning the Eng'g Cup next year, given that we garnered last place this year? How do you plan to improve our standing next year?
Yes, I believe that students from our department are good not only in programming but also in sports! We just have to know how to tap their potentials.=)
12. Should you win as a CS Rep, UP Parser becomes part of your responsibilites since you will be automatically appointed Managing Editor. How do you plan to contribute to Parser?
Journalism during highschool has taught me tips on how to manage a school paper. I think we could feature Techonology and Computer Science facts and information, and also news within the department, college, university (to help the students to become more aware of what's happening, what's new, etc).
13. In an alternate universe where you're not taking up Computer Science, what would be your course and why?
BS Biology - I've always wanted to be a doctor ever since I was a child. I love helping other people and doing service them and attending to their needs. If I were to be a doctor, I'd be able to cure the sick, or at least alleviate their pain. I would also probably be attending a lot of medical missions for the less fortunate people.
14. Give us the best computer-related joke you've got.
25 programmer pick-up lines:
"Are you an exception? Let me catch you."
"You are my increment operator. You make my value increase."
"I think you're my compiler. My life wouldn't start without you."
"I am a BufferedReader. You input meaning into my life."
"You are my semicolon; always present in everything I do."
"You are the JDK (Java Development Kit) in my life. I won't compile without you."
"If I were a method, you must be my parameter, because I will always need you."
"We are an aggregation of classes: one cannot exist without the other."
"public class YourWorld extends MyWorld"
"Let me be the 'throws Exception' to your 'public static void main (String[] args)'. I will accept whatever you give me."
"[me != me]. [me += you]."
"You are my superclass: you define what I can do."
"You are the IDE of my life: I find it easier because of you."
"I am the field attribute in your class: I can't exist unless you do."
"My love for you is a constant variable: unupdatable and unchangeable. "
"You are my loop condition. I keep coming back to you."
"You are my methods. I am nothing without you."
"You are my API. I want to know everything about you."
"Can you be my ActionListener? That way you notice everything that I do."
"I am a boolean method whose love will always return true."
"Are you a double? The thought of you always floats inside my head."
"Buti pa ang Strings, nag-mamatch. "
"Buti pa ang data type, may value."
"Buti pa ang Swing components, may Listeners."
"Di na tayo kailangang i-cast pa; magkatype na tayo, e..."
15. Would you rather be the next Bill Gates or the next Steve Jobs? Why?
Bill Gates - I admire his entrepreneurial skills and love for computers. I also admire the fact that even though Bill Gates has become very, very rich, he never forgets to donate to certain charities. "With great power comes great responsibility." We should never forget to give in return to those people who helped us. As UP students, our tuition fees are subsidied the Philippine community so perhaps when I graduate I could also help other people in the future.
